Tell me about glaucoma

Why is eye pressure important in glaucoma?

Firstly, it’s important to understand that high eye pressure is not caused by eye strain from watching TV or reading.

Abnormally high eye pressure is caused by a build-up of fluids in the front of the eye.

The increased pressure from the front of the eye increases the pressure on the optic nerve at the back of the eye.

Too much pressure can damage the optic nerves. This is known as glaucoma.

How pressure affects vision

Pressure is important, but the most important thing is how your field of vision is affected. This is shown in a visual field test.
